About us

Hobart Wise Minds aims to provide psychological support services to older adults in Tasmania, to help improve emotional well-being, reduce stress and anxiety, and enhance overall quality of life.

We also aim to support adults in mid-life (50+), who may be going through different transitions or changes and who are wanting to better their mental health.

We aim to assist you in navigating through changes and challenges that you may face in these stages of life while honouring your individual values, life experiences and preferences. Our goal is to support and empower you to be able to live a fulfilling and meaningful life at all times, regardless of age.

I started Hobart Wise Minds with the aim of making psychological therapy and counselling more accessible and tailored to our older adults in the community and the support people in their lives.          I also enjoy working with adults in mid-life who are going through transitions and losses including changes to role and sense of identity, work related stress, dissatisfaction or burnout, early retirement, loss of a loved one, relationship issues etc.

In understanding that each stage of life is unique to the individual but also in the experiences and challenges commonly faced, I enjoy working with individuals using a collaborative and person-centred approach while utilising the life experiences and skills each person brings to the table as a foundation to build upon. I am a firm believer that you are the expert in you- in our work together, I aim to walk alongside you on your journey to better mental health and wellbeing.

I have close to a decade of experience working with adults of all ages across Tasmania through various public and private sector settings, including in Community Mental Health services, the Royal Hobart Hospital and the Department of Justice. My experience includes working with people living with dementia or other cognitive impairment. In therapy, we can work towards managing co-existing depression or anxiety, and in maintaining independent living and improving quality of life by building in practical strategies to cope. I have also worked with  families and carers on how to support their loved one, while also supporting their own wellbeing

It is rare to find a one-size-fits-all treatment as every person is a unique blend of their own personality, values, preferences, strengths and experiences. I use a process approach to therapy, utilising several cognitive behavioural approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Cognitive Behaviour therapy, Dialectical Behaviour therapy, Schema therapy and practical skills building to create an individualised plan and roadmap with you.

I look forward to meeting you and supporting you towards the goal of better mental health.

Kind regards,

Shoma
